Stained boxwood. The profile is underlined by ebony and ivory mountings. One silver key (low C) under a barrel.

There is no surviving original of this « grand hautbois ».


This instrument is a personnal reconstruction of an hautboy depicted in the borders of a Gobelins tapestry (preserved in Siena, Italy) and an other tapestry (Avril au Chāteau de Versailles), both dating around 1660. This instrument could be one of the first hautboy intended for playing in the Lully orchestra.
